I've started work on the character's inventory, partly to facilitate rendering sprites consistently. Also, I've made it so the characters retain their weapon between stages. Finally.
It's interesting how much of a difference visual continuity makes to gameplay. It's far more evident that guns are super effective… and perhaps overly so, but I have other things to tend to before balance. Things like… the interface, or maybe some exposition or story-telling. Maybe.
If you've never played before, a warning: these characters die. a lot. Avoid cities early on, look for survivors in the woods or on mountains. If you're feeling particularly heroic, maybe circle back and rescue those you left behind once you have a nice sized group formed, but beware, the bigger your group, the more likely you are to attract unwanted attention.
